Abstract

Background:In Georgia in pediatric population (0-18y) total number of cases Covid-19 was 294,649 (9th report of the NCDC ); In M. Iashvili Batumi Maternal and Children's Central Hospital total of 2,901 pediatric patients with COVID-19 spent 2020-2022.

Aim of the study was to analyze retrospective epidemiological and clinical data of single-center records of COVID-19 positive children (age 0-18 years) hospitalized in M.Iashvili Batumi Maternal and Children's Hospital during 2020-2022. 

Method:This retrospective review of electronic medical records (n-1901) who were hospitilized with COVID-19 between Nov. 1 2020 to Mar. 15, 2022. Data statistically analyzed with the SPSS program; The difference of quantitative indicators between groups was assessed by t-test, and the distribution of categorical indicators - by X2 test.

Results:Among 1901 patients, 52% were girls. Distribution according to age showed that in case of hospitalization during all three years, percentages are significantly higher for 0-5 years ( p<0.001).The analysis of symptoms fever (92%), cough(64%) and shortness of breath (63%) were observed more significantly often(p<0.001). Obesity (24%) was the most prevalent comorbidity. In sNICU (n=86) ? 8 (9%), PICU n=(68) 12 (17%) patients required mechanical ventilation. Three patient (2%) died.With severe disease had significantly higher CRP and procalcitonin levels (p<0.001).

Conclusion: In this case series study of children Coronavirus disease had diverse manifestations. Obesity was significantly associated with disease severity. Elevated inflammatory markers (CRP, procalcitonine) were also associated with disease severity.
