Introduction-The rate and severity of respiratory complications after coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) resolution is currently unknown, as survival improves, identifying and managing long term complications of COVID-19 infection, became necessary.
Objective-The aim of the study was to identify post-COVID-19 pulmonary complications in our chest clinic.
Methodes-This is a retrospective case series study. All the confirmed COVID-19 patients who had respiratory complications were included in the study during November 2020 to march 2022. Demographic and clinical data were collected on standardized questionnaire with prior coding of parameters. Two physicians reviewed the high-resolution CT images independently.
Results-Forty three COVID-19 patients were involved in this study. Twenty nine of them were male (67,4%) and fourteen (32,6%) cases were female, with a mean age of 65,42 years (16-88). All of the patients developed severe COVID-19 and were treated by high flow nasal oxygen. The most common complaints after recovery from COVID-19 were shortness of breath (95%), cough (83%), and chest pain (30%). The main comorbidities were hypertension (37,2%), followed by diabetes (35%) and COPD (11,6%). Computed tomography scan showed different pulmonary abnormalities, the most prevalent was post-covid pulmonary fibrosis (58%), pneumothorax (21%), and aspergillosis (9,3%).
Conclusion-Corona Virus Disease-19 (COVID-19) is well known to be associated with pneumonia and systemic diseases, our case series study revealed that post-covid pulmonary fibrosis, pneumothorax and aspergillosis were complications after COVID-19 resolution.
