Abstract

INTRODUCTION Handling and maintaining LT-NIV equipment in patients own home can be a challenge for elderly and chronically ill patients. Relatives and home care often have to support the patient.

PURPOSE Which digital solutions create security, quality and safety for patients, relatives and home care in connection with LT-NIV?

METHODS Healthcare content for LT-NIV was developed in an app solution with the possibility of video consultations 1-2 times a week, with simultaneous digital monitoring of data from the patient's NIV machine. Interview with the participants (21 patients, 11 relatives, 14 from homecare, 6 LT-NIV experienced nurses at the hospital).

RESULTS The digital solutions were usable for the participants. 11 out of 21 patients used video and found it positive to see each other. 19 out of 21 patients felt safe and secure to be monitored from the hospital. Resistance to technology, out-of-date equipment and problems with passwords were reasons for not using the app.  5 out of 11 relatives knew the app. The relatives who had participated in video calls were enthusiastic about this solution.

7 out of 14 from home care wanted more teaching in the app solution. In addition, customized information for the individual patient is desired. The home care asked for the option of using app solution for video calls with the hospital.

The 6 LT-NIV nurses express digital monitoring of data and video consultations as a safe and secure method to get an overview of the patient's LT-NIV treatment.

CONCLUSION Improve training in app solution in connection with LT-NIV in the home to address resistance to technology. Personalize the app. The digital solutions are now implemented
