Abstract

Introduction:There is few literature about the use and demands of respiratory nurses in terms of SL

Aim:To know the opinion about SL in Respiratory

Methods:Two-phased mixed method research:

-PHASE 1:Quantitative research validated survey(Delphi+confirmatory factor analysis.SAS 9.3

- PHASE 2:Qualitative Hermeneutic phenomenological research.Van Manen(1990)

Population: Respiratory nurses in Spain

Data collection: 32 surveys& 12 semi-structured interviews(E)

Results

12.33% male,66%female

Register interventions:94% register in clinical records.52% use nursing diagnoses if mandatory

E6:"When I have used it, it is because they have forced me"

62% consider them useful and part of the future of respiratory nursing

E5:"Within 10 years, all the people who leave college leave with this taxonomy learned and therefore (...) this is going to change completely"

Nurses demand

? Advanced technical language

E2:"Our supervisor was fond of SL and she has promoted it"

E1:?It is a way of facilitating our work.The same language will be used for everything and in every country?

25% of participants lack of practice.E6:?I have heard about SL but I would ask supervisors to train me?

Conclusions

Respiratory nursing is a very technical field where SL is difficult to apply as it is conceived to name nursing care and not an advanced technical praxis.They only use it if is mandatory,with the role of managers as promoters, though they consider them as an essential element of their profession in the near future
