Abstract

Background: Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA) is an under-recognised and debilitating form of pulmonary infection associated with global morbidity and mortality. Although health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) metrics have been suggested, currently used scores are non-disease specific. Therapeutic efficacy trials in CPA are also problematic due to unclear endpoints.

Aim: This study aims to identify core domains of HRQoL in CPA to inform the initial phase of developing a novel disease-specific score.

Methods: An initial literature review was performed to identify existing measures of HRQoL used in CPA, and a further qualitative thematic analysis study based on semi-structured focus group feedback to identify core HRQoL domains.

Results: This pilot study identified 6 core domains of HRQoL pertinent to patients and healthcare professionals (figure 1). We further highlighted that currently used HRQoL scores do not capture core domains of HRQoL in CPA (figure 2).

Conclusion: This study identified core domains of HRQoL in CPA which we will use to develop a novel disease-specific score that can be used to assess disease burden and progression.
