Abstract

This study aims to investigate the outcome of all patients admitted to the newly formed High Dependency Unit (HDU) in Harefield Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the survival rate of patients who received care in the HDU. The HDU was established in response to the increased demand for intensive care resources during the pandemic.

A retrospective analysis of patient data was conducted, encompassing the period from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic until the date of data collection. All patients admitted to the HDU during this period were included in the study. Data regarding patient demographics, comorbidities, severity of illness, treatments received, and outcomes were collected and analyzed.

The results of the study revealed a remarkable 100% survival rate among the patients admitted to the HDU. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the HDU was successful in providing adequate care and support to all patients, resulting in favorable outcomes. The survival rate suggests that the HDU's resources, including medical staff, equipment, and treatment protocols, were effective in managing the critical condition of COVID-19 patients.

The findings of this study highlight the importance of establishing HDU, to provide intensive care to patients during public health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
