Abstract

Introduction

Reproducibility is important for the validation of biomarkers in personalized medicine, especially at the oncological level. The main objective of this work is to corroborate in a larger cohort the possible utility of gene expression changes identified by our research group in previous works as lung cancer biomarkers. (1)

 Materials and methods

A population sample of 23 patients with lung adenocarcinoma (n= 13) or squamous cell carcinoma (n= 10) in its early stages were recruited. From previous work, using massive sequencing, we have identified changes in the expression of 14 miRNA as a possible cancer biomarker. We applied the qPCR technique in tumor and healthy lung tissue for each of these possible biomarkers. (1)

Results

Of the 14 possible miRNAs that could be used as expression biomarkers, we have been able to corroborate the validity of 2 of them in lung adenocarcinoma (hsa-miR-449a and hsa-miR-369-3p). While in the case of patients with squamous cell carcinoma we have been able to corroborate the validity of 2 of them, such as hsa-miR31-5p and hsa-miR196b-5p.

Conclusions

The expression changes of the miRNAs, hsa-miR-449a, hsa-miR-369-3p, hsa-miR31-5p and hsa-miR196b-5p could be used as specific biomarkers.
