Abstract

Introduction: Therapeutic education is the key to asthma management, but despite the efforts of health professionals, a large proportion of patients remain uncontrolled. Given that access to information through smartphones and the Web has become essential, it is important to think about using them for better education.
The objective of our study is to evaluate how smartphones can be used to improve the management of asthma patients in terms of therapeutic education

Method: We conducted a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical aims, carried out between January 2022 and January 2023, at the Souss-Massa University Hospital in Agadir.

Results: Our study included 142 patients. The average age of our population was 28.9 years, with a clear female predominance of 73%. Almost 40% of the subjects had a secondary education, 36% a university education and 12% were illiterate. About 78% of the patients had a smartphone, of which 62% had already used it to search for information about their disease. The most searched topics were beta2mimetics use, side effects; and general asthma information. Almost 72% of respondents preferred to have a platform that brought all these topics together, and almost all of them preferred a mobile application, which also included treatment reminders, and daily information on the level of air pollution.

Conclusion: IT tools are widely used, and it would be interesting to use them to improve the management of asthma.
