Medical education is generally deficient in teaching environmental and occupational determinants of human health in general, and respiratory health in particular. At the same time, the impact of those factors on respiratory health is increasingly evident and pressing, given recent episodes of environmental disasters. Continued medical education provides a venue to mitigate and ameliorate that educational deficiency.
The educational aim is to present a broad perspective of the increasingly incontrovertible contribution of irritants and allergens in the environment and the workplace, to the causation, aggravation, and perpetuation of asthma throughout the world.
