Session aims
to provide an overview of the most relevant advances in diagnosis and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), obstructive sleep apnoea, interstitial lung disease (ILD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis (CF) and COVID-19; to discuss recent findings indicating potential novel pathways that support COPD subphenotypes and evidence for potential new drugs and therapeutic approaches to treat COPD; to describe evidence about the prognosis of different sleep indices alongside different patient cluster responses to continuous positive airway pressure therapy in terms of major cardiovascular events in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea; to examine major developments in diagnostic imaging methods and techniques (including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound) for lung function assessment in patients with COPD, ILD, CF and COVID-19; to discuss recent evidence of the effectiveness of alternative pulmonary rehabilitation models for patients with chronic respiratory diseases.
