This webinar will see an expert panel discuss the on the ERS Clinical Practice Guideline on palliative care for people with COPD or ILD.
Palliative care has historically been primarily for people affected by cancer. Chronic and progressive lung diseases are major causes of long-term disability and premature mortality worldwide. There is increased awareness of palliative care needs in people with COPD or interstitial lung disease (ILD). Despite this increased awareness, most people with COPD or ILD and their informal caregivers receive insufficient palliative care, or very late in the course of their disease trajectory. Recently, an ERS clinical practice guideline was published, including recommendations for initiation and integration of palliative care into the respiratory care of adult people with COPD or ILD.
This session will be focusing on the new ERS Guideline on palliative care for people with COPD or interstitial lung disease, covering topics such as: what palliative care is; when to start palliative care; the use of advance care planning in COPD and ILD; informal caregiver involvement; and how to implement a palliative care approach for people with severe COPD or ILD. The session will provide a better understanding of how a palliative care and patient-centered approach can be offer in conjunction with any disease-modifying therapies.
This webinar will include 45 minutes of presentation, followed by interactive panel discussion and Q&A from participants.
