When considering the respiratory environment and particularly the lower respiratory tract, nebulisation has emerged as one of the most useful routes of administration to treat pulmonary disease, owed to its direct lung delivery and its ease in use by both the young and the elderly.

This course will provide useful information on the current state-of-the-art use for nebulisation in the pulmonary field.

Topics

  • Concepts/basics in nebulisation
  • Pre-clinical models/studies to assess nebulisation effectiveness
  • Nebulisation in clinics and clinical trials
  • Current development in nebulisation of biologics to control infection
  • Round table on "The successes and future of nebulised biologics/inhalation therapies"

Learning outcomes

Participants of this course will gain in-depth knowledge on nebulisation of drugs for treatment of respiratory infections and disease and be able to:

  • Describe what is nebulisation
  • Name the different types of nebulisers available
  • Understand the advantages offered by this route of administration with respect to treating pulmonary disease and infections
  • Be aware of the challenges regarding devices
  • Learn about formulation and regulatory aspects of nebulisation
  • Provide real-life examples of its use and applicability in the clinics.

Course format

  • Lectures
  • Q&A with the audience
  • Quiz
  • Round table discussion

Target audience

  • Clinicians
  • Researchers
  • Trainees
  • Healthcare Professionals
  • Nurses
  • Immunologists
  • Infectious disease scientists
  • Pneumologists
