Session aims
To provide an overview of the challenges and possibilities of cell therapy for lung diseases with a specific focus on lung rejection and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS); to identify and describe the possible mechanisms-of-actions of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-based therapy; to highlight the need to understand the interaction between MSCs and the local host microenvironment and to discuss how this information can be useful when designing clinical trials; to highlight new discoveries that will likely impact the future of cell-based therapy in respiratory medicine; to encourage interaction between basic scientists and clinical researchers.
