Overview

In recent years, guidelines and statements on diagnosis and treatment of both pulmonary and cardiac sarcoidosis have been published. However, in daily practice the treating physician has to deal with uncertainty regarding which drug to use, dosage, duration of treatment and assessment of relapse risk. Furthermore, regarding cardiac sarcoidosis, there are recent conflicting statements regarding screening.

Educational aims

  • Provide a hands-on overview of the latest studies on treatment of pulmonary and cardiac sarcoidosis as well as screening algorithm for cardiac sarcoidosis.

Topics:

1. Treatment of pulmonary sarcoidosis

  • Prednisone vs MTX as first line treatment options including different doses
  • Duration of therapy and assessment of inflammatory activity
  • Tapering of medication and risk of relapse

2. Screening for cardiac sarcoidosis

  • Appreciate the central role of MRI and FDG-PET in assessment of cardiac sarcoidosis
  • Appreciate the role of ECG, holter monitoring en echocardiography in screening for CS

3. Treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis

  • Risk assessment of cardiac sarcoidosis
  • Immunosuppressive therapies, decision-making regarding ICD and heart failure medication

Format

One-hour webinar format: 45 minutes for presentations, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Learning outcomes

Following this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Make a treatment plan for patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis
  • Learn how to use the most evidence based screening trajectory regarding cardiac sarcoidosis in patients they see with sarcoidosis in clinic.
  • Appreciate the importance of an MDT including cardiologists and nuclear physician
