Overview

Taking place on 5 July, this ERS Vision Live panel discussion focused on new concepts in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). 

 

The expert panellists discussed:

  • Pharmacological management of COPD
  • Role of eosinophils as biomarkers in COPD
  • Pre-COPD, PRISm and early/young COPD

 

Chairs

Prof. Alvar Agusti (co-chair)

 

Alvar Agusti is Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona and senior consultant at Clinic Barcelona. His main academic interest relates to translational research in chronic airway diseases, where he has published more than 500 articles (H-index 105). He is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of GOLD.

 

Prof. Marta Drummond (co-chair)

 

Marta is a pulmonology consultant specialising in COPD, asthma, sleep disorder breathing and NIV. She is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Sleep and Non-Invasive Ventilation Unit at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário São João, Porto.

Speakers 

Prof. Dave Singh 

 

Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester, UK. His research interest is the development of new drugs for asthma and COPD. He has acted as principal investigator in over 400 clinical trials. He is a member of the GOLD Science Committee.

 

Prof. Dr Claus Vogelmeier

 

Professor of Medicine and Head of the Department for Pulmonary Medicine at the Philipps-University of Marburg, Germany. After qualifying in medicine from the University of Munich, Dr. Vogelmeier started his professional career at the Hospital of the University of Munich.

 

Dr MeiLan Han

 

Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Michigan and a member of the GOLD Scientific committee. Dr. Han received her medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
