Session aims
to address issues pertaining to the optimal frequency, modality and timing of early rehabilitation in critically ill patients based on the results of a recent landmark multicentre trial; to discuss the role of respiratory muscle conditioning in improving weaning outcomes and functional recovery of mechanically ventilated patients based on the results of the recent IMPROVE randomised trial; to increase awareness of the complicated and persistent morbidity and resulting rehabilitation needs that follow critical illness, reviewing recent studies on outcomes after critical illness; to provide experts with guidance on how to design a personalised rehabilitation program for intensive care unit survivors.
