Session aims
to present most common problems that surgeons, chest physicians, intensivists and even radiologists can face for diagnosis and treatment in the critically ill patients; to emphasize the need of multidisciplinary approacht o these patients; to clarify diagnosis and treatment of patients with pneumothorax and patients on mechanical ventilation, patients with pulmonary disease listed for lung transplantation and pneumothorax after a bronchoscopic procedure, surgical procedure or talc pleurodesis (to distinguish ‘true’ pneumothorax from the residual air space); to distinguish free empyema and complex empyema and try to create a protocol for critically ill patients (intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy, dornase alfa, additional drainage tubes, medical thoracoscopy and surgical procedures); to discuss chylothorax after surgical procedures, spontaneous chylothorax, conservative treatments, surgical options and bronchopleural fistulas (fistulas after lung transplantation, fistulas after cancer surgery, conservative treatments, bronchoscopic treatments and surgical options).
