Session aims
To address the issue regarding the use of race-specific equations in pulmonary function testing and its relevance in the present multiracial generation we are living in; to provide a comprehensive overview of the impact of ethnic or racial misclassification when interpreting pulmonary function test results, and the consequence of this misinterpretation, both for the adult and paediatric population; to provide new insights on how the issue of race or ethnic classification can be addressed; to explore other possibilities for defining normal pulmonary function test results.
