To provide an overview of basic and translational scientific highlights and major achievements in the respiratory field within the past year, focusing on metabolic changes and abnormalities in interactions between immune and structural cells during lung aberrant tissue damage and repair responses in lung ageing and disease; to provide an overview of various key publications that are expected to have a major impact in the respiratory field and with high clinical relevance based on promising results in preclinical models; to cover a variety of pulmonary diseases; to discuss the potential for clinical translation of novel therapeutic strategies.
