Session aims
Paediatric sleep disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnoea gained increasing attention over the past decade with significant advancements in diagnostic techniques, description of specific normative values for children, and the establishment of management guidelines. However, these advancements predominantly centred on children aged 2 years and older, leaving a noticeable gap in addressing infants and young children below this age threshold. This session will aim to review the diagnostic and management challenges for sleep disordered breathing in these young children and discuss if we need to treat all young children with sleep disordered breathing and whether knowing the natural history would help decision making process. This session will also address treatment options in this age group once a treatment decision is made as they may significantly differ from older children.
