Session aims
Obstructive sleep apnoea and chronic insomnia disorder are highly prevalent conditions. Based on their frequent occurrence, coincidence by chance is possible. However, the pathophysiological manifestations each disorder may interact in a synergistic way, meaning that the result of co-occurrence is worse than the mere addition of the individual components. As a result, a blended phenotype (currently called 'COMISA' - comorbid insomnia and sleep apnoea) may emerge, that may prove difficult to treat. The aim of this section is to assess the frequency of co-occurrence, the clinical manifestations, and therapeutic options.
