Session aims
to provide a comprehensive overview of the diagnosis and management of severe respiratory infections, addressing key challenges and advances in the field; to explain the role of non-invasive diagnostic and monitoring approaches, the appropriate use of corticosteroids and the specificities of severe infections in immunocompromised patients; to focus on the increasing recognition of invasive aspergillosis in the context of severe viral pneumonia, particularly influenza-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (IAPA) and COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA); to emphasise evidence-based approaches and practical considerations in clinical decision-making, promoting interactive discussions and case-based learning; to integrate current knowledge into participants’ clinical practice, optimise patient outcomes and engage in multidisciplinary strategies for the management of severe respiratory infections.
