Session aims
to discuss the risk, pathophysiology and characteristics of COPD development due to biomass exposure and propose appropriate early interventions for treatment; to present the most recent evidence regarding associated respiratory health effects and underlying biological pathways; to discuss mitigation and adaptation actions and the current international regulations on indoor air pollutants, highlighting the knowledge gaps; to discuss the global urgent need for health-based exposure limits both at work and home to protect the most vulnerable subjects such as children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with underlying chronic lung conditions who are often homebound.
