to define viral sepsis and epidemiology; to discuss viral sepsis, its pathophysiology and how it differs from bacterial and fungal sepsis, highlighting the unique immune mechanisms involved; to present key data on the epidemiology of viral sepsis, especially related to mortality; to improve diagnostic awareness and explain the immune pathogenesis; to address the diagnostic challenges and gaps in detecting viral sepsis, emphasising the underuse of viral panels in routine practice, especially during pandemics; to explore the immune mechanisms that viruses utilise to induce sepsis, including how they manipulate immune responses and trigger tissue damage; to discuss current treatment options for viral sepsis, identify areas for improvement and highlight the need for future research to refine diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
