Session aims
to address a relevant issue in global health given there is an urgent need for respiratory medical devices, e.g., mechanical ventilators and lung function laboratories, in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) worldwide; to describe the current lack of respiratory medical devices in LMICs and the clinical problems involved; to focus on the advantages and disadvantages of different ways to potentially improve the availability of medical devices for diagnosing and treating patients in LMICs; to provide a current perspective of the problem and explain the challenges and potential solutions; to discuss ideas of how to implement potential solutions regarding the specific need for respiratory medical devices in LMICs.
