2009 - International seminar on the rationale and use of surfactant and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in extremely low gestational age neonates (ELGANs)

The objective of this seminar was to reach an evidence-based consensus on the use of noninvasive respiratory support in neonates (CPAP), organise collaborative research for areas of poor evidence and to research data in order to

  • find consensus on the best available evidence regarding the above-mentioned clinical scenarios and formulate ERS guidelines,
  • identify and focus on areas of urgently needed research,
  • form international collaborations for future research in order to answer such questions in large, multicentre trials.
